Expert: Ransomware attacks in Russia spike 75% in Jan–Sep
MOSCOW, Oct 20 (PRIME) -- The number of cyberattacks with the use of ransomware against Russian companies jumped by 75% on the year in January–September with the average ransom demanded by the perpetrators exceeding 37 million rubles, cybersecurity company F.A.С.С.T. said on Friday in a research.
“The record was set by the blackmailers from group Shadow who claimed 200 million rubles for data decoding. It was five times less than the extorters from OldGremlin asked in 2022 from a victim, and the ransom reached 1 billion rubles then,” F.A.С.С.T. said.
Ransomware attacks are the most popular type of cyberthreats, the company said.
The most common victims were the country’s retailers as well as production, construction, travel, and insurance companies. The average downtime of an attacked firm reached 14 to 18 days.
